These Spartan Years

These Spartan Years

There is serenity in knowing
That a distant love will keep growing
Though his time is slowing || testing his strength
As the cold winds of heartache keep blowing

The fates speak to his stoic repose
That hides feelings to her he exposed
But such he chose without any regret
A chance he didn’t deserve from his rose

There is still rare magic in the air
Cast upon this inseparable pair
And so he dares to face the coming years
Under conviction’s spell that time can’t wear

A lone Spartan that waits for his girl
Defiant against grief’s downward swirl
Credence in the fates’ whirls of prophecy
Chanting spells for the return of his pearl

I wrote this poem in the form of a Gwawdodyn Byr.
