~ Hummingbird ~
I watch my hummingbird, float outside the window,
in a flawless hover, a perfect still photo.
Its bright shimmering breast, lucent like a rainbow.
A soporific hum; Iām cast in a meadow.
I doze out of this world, into an inert gaze,
wandering in old thoughts, borne out of the archaize.
And from this mortal coil, my soul is out of phase.
I feel like a Spartan, mazed in these secluse days.
I sit in a dim room, but bright is my purview.
Watching birds follow paths, where my youthful dreams flew.
All that I know now and all that I thought I knew,
Are lost in the colors my hummingbirds imbue.
But this day has ended, the storm clouds have rolled in,
my fluttering faeries, have all gone with the wind.
Teardrops on my window, my gaze falls with my chin,
Now I wait for darkness, and new dreams to begin.
I wrote this poem in the form of a Filipino Awit.
