Phoenix

Phoenix

A dream has taken me,
formless to apogee,
of forbidden love emerging.

I’m cautious yet trusting,
for my world is rusting,
from tarnished pasts, I’m purging.

In this dream I’m flying,
from an old life that’s dying,
into her heart I’m merging.

I wrote this poem in the form of Hungarian Balassi stanzas, a style that dates to the 16th century, composed in three tercets.
