A Prayer in the Eventide

Snug in the warmth of eventide’s blush, strangers pass hand in hand, oblivious of this covetous and abject heart. My life, eclipsed by a single moment to which their innocence is unaware. I sink as they float past like angels above this hallowed ground made sacred by memories I pray they’ll never bear. Unbeholden, they soar in the bloom of a rose sky, as I wither in their distance.

not this place
but what it holds
that keeps me

I wrote this in the form of a Haibun, which combines prose with a simple haiku.
