Endurance

How does a man reconcile his solitude?

These intimate thoughts woven in memory.

Doth time cut slowly to test my fortitude?

I keep a soft heart despite time’s emery.

I waken from lucid dreams in quietude.

And wonder, will today be the end of me?

I wrote this poem in free verse with 11 syllables per line to express the pain of enduring solitude without letting the heart go fallow.
